Description

Since Music for Hope began working with young people in the Bajo Lempa, it has encouraged the learning and playing of traditional music. Perhaps surprisingly (given that the Andes of South America are such a long way from El Salvador), Andean music has always been popular in the Bajo Lempa communities. Panpipes, a basic wind instrument traditionally made from fixed lengths of bamboo (although now more likely to be tunable and made from pvc tubes), are a key instrument for any band that plays Andean music. One important technique is to have various players playing different notes in sequence and collaboration so learning the panpipes is a great way for our young musicians to build their teamwork skills as well as their musicality. £15 can purchase a basic set of panpipes that can contribute to a band entertaining their community with a tropical version of Andean Cumbia.
